Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease is commonly referred to as GERD. According to details published by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRC), the number of people hospitalized between 1998 and 2005, for GERD rose 103%. Both Zantac® and Tagamet® block the symptoms associated with GERD and they are promoted to temporarily heal ulcers. The claims offered by pharmaceutical companies stop short of addressing the underlying cause.
Reflux Plus Addresses the Cause, Rather than Blocking its Effect
Reflux Plus is a combination of two very effective, synergistic, soothing and healing nutritional agents for the upper digestive tract, especially the esophagus, stomach and duodenum. These agents are D-limonene (800 mg) and Deglycrrhizinated Licorice Root Extract (200 mg); they are classic examples of addressing the underlying cause of a condition rather than simply blocking an effect.
While prescription and over-the-counter drugs like Zantac® and Tagamet® can block symptoms and promote temporary healing, they rarely address the underlying cause of the problem. Most people do not get ulcers because of over secretion of acid. The cause in most cases is a breakdown in the integrity of the intestinal lining. The all-natural product, Licorice, addresses the underlying factors and promotes true healing. Rather than inhibit the release of acid, licorice stimulates the normal defense mechanisms that prevent ulcer formation.
Stomach Ulcers
Near 80% of stomach ulcers are caused by an infection from the bacterium called H. Pylori. The other 20% are associated with the widespread use of over the counter pain relievers known as Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, usually known as NSAIDs. The stomach lining require prostaglandins to produce a thick coating of gelatinous mucus. This mucosal lining stops acid contained in digestive juices from burning the stomach wall and by preventing harmful bacteria from entering the bloodstream. NSAIDs block the production of prostaglandins, leaving the stomach lining susceptible to ulceration and invasion by the H. pylori bacterium.
D-limonene, one of the two main ingredients in Reflux Plus, coats the stomach, providing a natural barrier and helps to prevent the H. pylori from adhering to the lining of the stomach or duodenum. This allows the other ingredient, a particular licorice root extract, to assist in the healing of the ulcerated area. Licorice contains several beneficial flavonoids that can inhibit the growth of H. pylori, including strains of the bacteria that are resistant to Amoxicillin. Specifically, flavonoids present in licorice inhibit the growth of H. pylori, while the whole extract improves both the quantity and the quality of the protective substances which line the intestinal tract, increases the life span of the intestinal cell, and improves blood supply to the intestinal lining. |
