Supplement Facts

When unfriendly bacteria dominate the intestines the effects can include diarrhea, gas, bloating, intestinal toxicity, constipation, and mal-absorption of nutrients, as well as the pain and damage that result from pathogens like E. coli and Salmonella. EBN refers to the friendly bacteria as "aerobic", meaning the bacteria uses oxygen in their cycle. The bad bacteria do not use oxygen, and hence, are detrimental to our health.

EBN's ProBiotic works to restore the colon through a special blend of four powerful friendly bacteria:

1) Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactobacillus casei
2) Bifidobacterium bifidum and Bifidobacterium lactis

1) Lactobacilli Type
Lactobacilli are one of the most important types of friendly bacteria found in the digestive tract. They are found mostly in the small intestine. These bacteria get their name, "lacto", because they are able to turn milk sugar into lactic acid.

Additionally, lactobacilli are able to "balance" unfriendly bacteria. This mechanism is through the production of lactic acid, altering the intestinal environment and making it unsuitable for unfriendly bacteria. Another benefit of this friendly bacterium is that it inhibits microorganisms that produce disease in the urinary tract, especially Candida Albicans (yeast). Another benefit is its ability to aid in developing natural defenses against viral infections, boosting the immune system. L. acidophilus has also shown promise in the battle against H. pylori and in protecting against the potentially fatal food borne pathogen, Listeria monocytogenes.

Common use of antibiotics is often linked to gastrointestinal side effects due to destruction of friendly bacteria. Lactobacilli offset these effects by re-colonizing the intestine particularly after a course of antibiotics.

2) Bifidobacteria Type
Bifidobacteria colonize mainly the large intestine, or colon. Bifidobacteria are considered extremely important to the health of the gastrointestinal tract. The bifidobacteria have been therapeutically used to address intestinal disorders and boost the immune system.

These strains are also important for the production of B vitamins and to reduce antibiotic-induced fluctuations with the Gl distress that can ensue. Antibiotics are particularly effective at killing all kinds of bacteria, good and bad – although antibiotics can often lead to secondary infections and diarrheas.

Bifidobacterium bifidum is especially good at bolstering the body's immune response and inhibiting harmful enzymes. Bifidobacterium lactis has a high affinity for intestinal colonization, improving the intestinal environment, which promotes better regularity.
